Kelly McParland: Ontario votes, 2011 -- Tim Hudak-Harris versus Dalton 'the disappointment' McGuinty

Tim Hudak and Dalton McGuinty have a little over two years to prepare for the next Ontario election, which should be plenty of time to develop a positive, upbeat, forward-looking campaign that avoids smear campaigns or personality politics.
Don’t bet on it though.
By the time of the vote in October 2011 Mr. McGuinty will have been premier eight years. You’d have to be wild with Liberal enthusiasm to describe his accomplishments thus far as anything greater than modest. A more adept Progressive Conservative campaign might have ousted him in 2007, just on the material available at that point. And he’s been accumulating failures for almost two more years since then.
Tim Hudak, the new PC leader, would probably like to present himself as a fresh face -- an energetic young family man with new ideas -- but will have a tough time pulling it off. Two days into his new job, barely a mention of his name passes without being linked to Mike Harris. Before he gets a chance to propose policies of his own, Hudak may find himself defending those of the man who stepped down seven years ago.

Last word: In the final analysis this blog is a relief valve for my rants/raves.
