All that crying for nothing
October 6th, 2006 by DarceyU.S. Army deserter Darrell Anderson stated a week ago that Canada wasn’t the safe haven he thought it would be and he headed home to face his punishment. He’s out today, his mom picked him up:
Army deserter Darrell Anderson of Lexington was released from Fort Knox this morning and is on his way home, according to his lawyer.
Chicago-based attorney Jim Fennerty said by telephone just before noon that Anderson had been released and apparently had been picked up at Fort Knox in Radcliff by his mother, who was taking him home.
No other details were immediately available, but when Anderson turned himself in to the Army on Tuesday, Fennerty said that he hoped the Lexington man would be released by today and would receive a written discharge later by mail. He is expected to receive something other than an honorable discharge.
Anderson, 24, returned to the United States last Saturday, nearly two years after fleeing to Canada as an Army deserter. (Lexington Herald)
