For every auto worker that is laid off there are a number of other workers in allied industries that will also lose their jobs. Let's not forget that for every worker laid off less money goes into the pot to pay for your green iniatives. You not only lose income tax but you lose gas taxes, gst, pst, etc. For every iniative that costs manufacturers more and makes them less competitive their inclination to move off shore shore increases. More lost revenue! How many years will it be before they start having LiveAid Concerts to support needy Canadians?

In his speeches extolling the virtues of the knowledge economy, Premier Dalton McGuinty frequently pulls out a BlackBerry from his vest pocket and boasts that its development has led to the creation of 5,000 jobs in Ontario.
That is, indeed, worth celebrating.
But there are 10 times that many people working at auto-assembly plants in Ontario, and another 90,000 are employed making auto parts.
And as the BlackBerry waxes, the auto sector is waning.
This week, Chrysler announced the elimination of some 2,000 jobs here. The bad news comes on the heels of similar "restructuring" announcements by Ford and General Motors. In all, an estimated 8,000 jobs will be lost at the Big Three's plants and offices in Ontario.
In the auto-parts sector, the news is even worse, with some 15,000 jobs already eliminated or on the hit list.
