Admitting it is failing some students of colour, the Toronto public board could open a black-focused school as early as next fall.

Two community meetings are planned in the next week to discuss the idea of an "African-centred alternative school" from junior kindergarten to Grade 8 that would have more black teachers, black mentors, more focus on students' heritage and more parent involvement.

A staff report is expected later this month with details on how the concept would work. If trustees approve such a school, it would be a first for Ontario and possibly Canada, although there are some in the United States in cities such as Detroit, Washington and Kansas City.

"Whatever is being used in the system at this moment is failing a lot of students – and more specifically a lot of black students," said Donna Harrow, a community worker who is behind the push for such a school, along with Etobicoke parent Angela Wilson.

An "Afrocentric" education system is a bad idea because it is based on the very flawed assumption that black kids would do better in school, if we just got rid of all the white people.

Because that worked like a charm in Africa. Not to mention all those "Afrocentric" neighbor"hoods", like the Jane/Finch shooting gallery.

More mentoring and more parental involvement are laudable goals, but they are not exclusively the needs of black children -- they are what is required for any child to have a firm base for success. The problem in black neighborhoods is not a lack of Kwanzaa awareness lessons in school. It is a fundamental lack of interest the parents of black children have, in positively influencing or supervising their own progeny. It is the destructive pathology of a black community which lionizes gang style thugs and instills no sense of personal responsibility for promiscuity and criminal behavior. Ridding the school of whites will not change any of that. It could very well exacerbate the problem.

And now they want taxpayers to subsidize the immersive cultivation and perpetuation of the victim culture which is responsible for all these problems.

So which is it guys? White people can't teach blacks or blacks can't learn from whites? Who are the bigots now?
