If We Don't Respect Those That Dispense The Law....

......then why should people respect the law? If common sense prevailed the answer is clear but the charter of rights has muddied the water to the extent that society is held up to ridicule by every nutbar.......

Scandalizing the court, a Kopyto specialty
By ALAN SHANOFF

Did you hear what Mr. Justice David Doherty of the Ontario Court of Appeal said about the judiciary and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms? According to a report in the Globe and Mail, Doherty told the Criminal Lawyers Association "The charter had given constitutional jurisdiction to every mutt in the country."

That's right, he called judges "mutts." Now, I'm no walking dictionary but I believe Doherty has attacked the intelligence of countless other judges. Can he do that? Can anyone do that? Isn't there some law that prevents people from hurling insults at judges?

Actually there isn't and we can all thank disbarred lawyer and now paralegal and social commentator Harry Kopyto for this state. To understand why, you have to go back to 1985 and I need to give you a short lesson in law.
