Police hunt suspect after woman shot in face

CTV.ca News Staff

Toronto police officers on routine patrol in Flemingdon Park came across a grisly scene early Monday morning -- a woman lying on the ground who had been shot in the face.

The victim, in her mid-30s, was found outside a doughnut shop on Don Mills Road near Gateway Boulevard shortly before 4 a.m., police said.

The woman was taken to hospital in serious condition. Her identity has not yet been released.

Police said they are searching for one male suspect. His identity has not been released.

The Flemingdon Park community held a barbecue last month to try and reach out to the neighbourhood, which has been silent in coming forward with information following the beating and stabbing death of 17-year-old Omar Wellington in the park.

The teen's body was found July 14, the day after dozens of residents witnessed a group of people force Wellington to strip to his underwear.

He was then brutally attacked and killed. His body was found in a wooded area.

None of the residents called police about the incident.
