Calling Bloggers Journalists IMHO Is A Stretch

There is no question that there are "bloggers" out there whose contributions would warrant labelling them "journalists" but overall they are a miniscule number.

Bloggers add to ranks of jailed journalists

New York — The number of journalists jailed worldwide for their work rose for the second year, with Internet bloggers and online reporters now making up one-third of those incarcerated, a U.S.-based media watchdog said yesterday.

A census by the Committee to Protect Journalists found a record 134 journalists in jail in 24 countries as of Dec. 1, an increase of nine from the 2005 tally. China, Cuba, Eritrea and Ethiopia were the top offenders.

While print reporters, editors and photographers again made up the largest number of jailed journalists, with 67 cases, there were 49 imprisoned Internet journalists, making them the second-largest category.
