FORBID THAT WE TALK ABOUT CUTTING LABOUR COSTS THAT TAKE THE MAJOR PORTION OF OUR BUDGET. I agree that Rae Days sucked and were the root cause of many of the measures that Mike Harris was forced to take to save the province from bankruptcy let's start saving the nickles and dimes at city hall before we ask our neighbors for help.

No 'Rae days' were not the root cause of why Harris had to gut the public service. In fact, the Rae days were a good idea. It allowed some people to keep their jobs and save money.
And I can tell you many people wished for those rae days after they lost their jobs completely.
No the root cause was the ndp's inability to manage the provinces finances totally, much like how idiot Lastman didn't gradually raise property taxes which were already ridiculously low here in residential Toronto and try to keep up with the provincial downloading that happened during his reign. Now enter Miller, a ndp'er to the core, which sealed our city's fate in terms of financial common sense.
The 'rae days' is actually a decent idea. But he is going to have to make bigger cuts now because it been left too long.
Personally I hope it doesn't come at the expense of security on things like the ttc. Harper has promised a piss poor amount to Toronto given it's size, and how big a target we are.
