From The Street & From The Pundits

We know those who are at the trough voted, social in-activists, civil servant unions, environuts, et al.......did you and did you make the same mistake you made 4 years ago?

We deserve it

I am dumbfounded with Wednesday night's provincial election results. How closed-minded and utterly complacent can Ontarians be? For those who chose to reward Dalton McGuinty for his shameful performance over the past four years, please don't whine for the next four.

Tories gave it away

I have to say Ontario has proved once again they are the most naive and gullible voters in Canada. The Liberals did not earn a new mandate -- rather, the Conservatives gave it away. Ontario deserves what it gets and I can not wait to move to another province. See ya.

It's the media's fault

Re "Maybe Canadians are too busy for politics" (Oct. 7): Greg Weston's concern about the polls simply indicates the media's total dependence on other opinions. Surely it is now evident John Diefenbaker was right when he said polls were for dogs. The questions can be easily rigged to provide the answer the pollster wants or is being paid to find. Unfortunately, because of the media's complete dependence on the pollsters, those polls are too often considered to be the barometer of public opinion whereas the media's constant clammering is what is apt to sway the populace. I suggest if newspapers did more research on their own it might (a) help to sell papers and (b) get more than a bare minority out to the polls.

Four more years?

Heath premium, Caledonia occupation, increased net debt, doctor shortage, GO transit issues, broken promises, smart meters, loss of coverage for eye care and chiropractic coverage, increased hydro rates, lies and more lies, etc. And the voters of Ontario reward the Liberals with four more years with a majority government?

Toronto's Liberal love affair
The Grits ignore us, but the city always forgives, forgets and paints the town red at election time
By ROB GRANATSTEIN
After spending 30 intense days watching the provincial election, and months leading up to last Wednesday's vote watching the machinations, I'm delighted to offer a few bits of advice for our politicians and for the next time around -- all at no charge (a bargain at twice the price, really).

That's pretty much what may happen federally, except switch the parties.

It's a sad day for Ontario, but an even sadder one is possible for Canada not to far in the future.
