In August, Councillor Adam Vaughan jumped into a media scrum where Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong was explaining $575 million in budget savings he had found. Vaughan kept repeating "where is your plan?" This is a perfect example how some on council are so close minded that any mention of finding savings turns them rabid. Sue-Ann Levy and Councillor Mike Del Grande found more than $440 million in savings that would have no obvious negative effect on those who pay the bills, the taxpayers ("Swing her axe," Oct. 14). Some are so obvious, it makes you wonder about the competence level of city officials who repeatedly say the city has done all it can to tighten its belt and now service cuts must be implemented. We all hear the political spin oozing from the mayor and those councillors in his pocket, but the fact is the list presented by Levy and Del Grande clearly shows there are savings to be found.
