Cyber-trash tax on way Province hopes to quietly pass recycling fee on electronics | The Ontario government is poised to quietly approve a new recycling fee on electronics within two weeks. "It's been done, I think, well under the radar," Kevin Gaudet, Ontario director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, told the Sunday Sun. "I'm really surprised at the lack of awareness of it," Gaudet said. A 30-day period for public consultation on the government's proposed Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Program Plan wrapped up last month and the plan is now before cabinet for approval. Televisions, computers, monitors, printers and fax machines are all included in the first phase of the program, which the government calculates will slap $62 million in new recycling fees on electronics manufacturers and importers.
