We don't have the money but that doesn't seem to bother politicos who think adding $6.7M to our expenses to put 8 more buses on the road during morning rush makes sense. It does make sense to the unions and it makes sense to the left wing but it makes no sense to me when I see 4 almost empty buses, one after the other, barrelling down Dufferin Street every morning or see the same situation with St. Clair streetcars. Oh! I forgot to ask is this $6.7M just wages or does this include benefit costs. Spread your legs David and make way for Perks/Giambrone
Cash for TTC is there: Perks |
The city will find the money to hire 54 more TTC drivers to meet the more-than-expected increase in riders.
But the municipal bean counters have to figure where in the city's budgets they can squeeze the $640,000 to pay the salaries.
"I expect this service will go in," said Parkdale-High Park Councillor Gord Perks, who also sits on the city's budget committee. "I just don't know how yet. Our books our tight."
But that dollar figure is for the remainder of the year and isn't much of a problem, TTC Chairman Adam Giambrone said.
The TTC will need $6.7 million to cover the increased service for next year, he said.
