How Much Has McGinty Promised In Transit $$$$

Something like $50 million but the City of Toronto are talking about shutting down subways and reducing service.......where has the train gone off the track? But remember the operative word here is "promised!"

Kipling Subway Stn. To Become "Major Transportation" Hub

Monday August 13, 2007

If you get on or off at the Kipling subway station, be prepared for some big changes. The end of the western part of the Bloor-Danforth line is about to become a major hub for other GTA cities to connect with transit coming into and leaving Toronto. Queen's Park officials confirmed the project on Monday, with the province, Mississauga and GO all combining on a $35.5 million price tag to redevelop the already bustling station.

The idea? Make the stop a connecting point for GO trains and buses from Hazel McCallion-land. Extra passenger pick-up and drop-off sections will be added, as well as new connecting points designed to make it easer to get from one entity to the other. "This is a great investment in transit because people will be able to connect conveniently and easily between three different transit systems," notes GO Transit chairman Peter Smith in a statement announcing the change. "It's going to allow us to expand bus service for GO commuters, and that is always a positive move."

But don't get off the bus just yet. The project won't start until 2008 and it won't be finished until sometime in 2010, a three year window.
