What A Dickhead

Harper needs to commit to troop pullout date: Dion

Liberal Leader Stephane Dion is continuing his push to have Prime Minister Stephen Harper commit to a timeline for when Canadian troops will be pulled out of a combat role in Afghanistan.

People really need to read the growing number of comments (39 at this moment), made by the public, at the end of this article. A couple which support my opinion about Dion.....

YEB
A very strange and bizzare interview by mr. Dion.

Let's not forget, that Mr. Dion sat at the cabinet table when then Prime Minister Chrétien in 2002 agreed to send Canadians troops to Afghanistan, then again he sat at the cabinet table when then Prime Minister Martin in 2005 agree to move our troops South and finally Mr. Dion as leader to of the official opposition voted in 2006 to extend the current mission in the South. Today, to make a virage is quit remarkable. All three Federal Leaders must work together on this one and certainly not against one another.

Al Wood
Mr. Dion should listen. The PM has clearly and on numerous occasions stated Canadian troops will be done with combat in Afghanistan Feb 2009 unless Parliament extends that date. When that subject is brought to Parliament for debate Mr. Dion, as a member of Parliament, will have his say at that time.

it's rather puzzling why conservatives think that because the liberals initially sent troops into afghanistan, that a blank cheque was signed in regards to the mission. This seems to be about the only thing the conservatives have, and they keep hammering it.

Time to change the message.

You are wrong, wrong, wrong! In case you have forgotten Harper heads a minority government meaning the liberals, ndp and bloc could take this matter to the voters by defeating the government. Do you have any idea why they don't this? I do...because they know they won't fare well at the polls especially Dion.

I don't get any pleasure seeing Canadian men and women dieing but whether we like it or not that is the consequence of voluntarily joining the military. Their primary function is not social work but they seem, if people take the time to read the reports, they are accomplishing things in Afganhistan.

And let's not forget they are there under the auspices of the United Nations.

again, that is your reason? Because the opposition doesn't force an election to waste our tax dollars to more than likely end up with a similar result?

Might I remind you the conservatives are doing terribly at the polls themselves! They' have plummeted in Quebec, and all I can hear about is how it's some 'leftists' fault. So when do our 'new government' finally take responsibility for their actions? When is it, 'their' fault???

I know. As a conservative supporter, you want to believe it's the commies, or some sort of boogyman.

Come on you have to come up with some better reasons than that...

You tend to go off topic....

Re-read the article and the original comment and the point being made is Dion is playing to Quebec because he has to defend his actions when he was part of the Martin cadre and the last time this was brought up in the current parliament. Harper has set a date for withdrawal and has promised discussion in the house. If the opposition disagrees they can bring down the house.

I am surprised that you would object to spending a few of your paltry tax $$$$ to have this matter decided by, in your opinion, the majority of the voters.

Read them & weep.....

Will you vote for Stephen Harper in the next election?
YES 57%

NO 43%

Do you want a federal election in the next 6 months?
Yes 42%

No 58%

Will Stéphane Dion be the Next Canadian Prime Minister?
YES 33%

NO 67%

Oh! Pardon me. Your response will be something negative about these polls and you will only believe in those polls that support your position....you do have a position don't you?

The Skinny said...

do I really need to waste valuable time linking to polls?

Unfortunately, they do not support your selective facts.

But given you are a conservative supporter that seems to dislike reality, I suppose you would have no interest in them.

But I suspect you know where to find them. What was the conservatives support in Quebec last time... 14%?

Quite the plummet!!

The reality is, the conservatives have slumped since taking office, and have failed to capture Canadians interest in general. This, is in stark contrast to other parties that take power over from another.

Now this is the real truth, regardless of which party you support.

Yes facts hurts donnit?
;)

at least my position is based on facts, and balance. Unlike yours which is "support conservatives in spite of anything". "Anybody but the "leftist" currently power, even if the choice is a nitwit"

(remember Pitfield? Right. Let's vote for a twit instead of Miller. What a great position...That was your position)

You say you have polls/facts that disprove my polls....YES you do have to post them.

Quebec has always been pacifist even back during WWII and thank gawd the Van Doos don't reflect that pacifism. BTW where do you get the 14% figure?

I don't know if facts hurt because you have yet to post any on any subject or any posting.

As owner of this blog I am going to exercise my right to close this posting comment section to you.

The Skinny said...

exercise your right to close free speech you mean? And particularly if someone is making a good point!
This seems to be your MO as you like to cut conversations off if they don't go your way. I would never do that on my blog, I'm not afraid of opposing opinions. All opposing opinions are posted, and responded to.

I would have thought it was easy to find some poll numbers. The polls that were conducted were reported by every news site in the country.

On another forum where we chatted about it, the last set of poll numbers were taken from this article on ctv http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20070612/liberals_lead_poll_070612/20070612?hub=Canada

This poll had the tories at 16% in quebec. I had seen another one that said 14% but can't find it, but you get the picture.

So there you go. Now stop whining about proving anything this is very very well known my friend.

The conservatives have slumped quite significantly and just about every poll in the last number of months have shown this. Also what is shown is the liberals have pretty much flatlined, no real change since their little bounce after choosing Dion.

So go ahead and censor this because it doesn't say what you want to hear.

There isn't any real enthusiasm for Harper as you seem to really want me to believe.

Nice try though.

I'm interested in what has changed with these numbers in the last 2 months. Really.

Not much has changed. Harper has been playing things pretty close to the vest and the defining issue that would attract disillusioned liberals has not happened. He is pretty close to the center which makes his support from the right mushy but there is no denying when it comes to Dion and him there is no contest.

Nothing I have heard changes the original premise....Dion is a dickhead.

Bottom line still is we will continue to support the conservatives....that is what the team is all about and unless they do something stupid like honor Trudeau we will stick with them.

The Skinny said...

ah spin spin spin. You are a victim of it. It's clear you think Dion is a dickhead. But your reasons is, he's a liberal.

Personally, I am watching closely. I don't know if he is a dickhead, like say, McGuinty. But I prefer to base my opinions based on what I see rather just because he's from a party I dislike.

The real story, beyond all the articles you have posted in response (thank you for the nod), is that despite a party that has been tired and bloated from 3 majority terms, and, a leader we barely even know (although you are ready to call dickhead anyways), the conservatives despite their call to arms have failed to capture the imagination of Canadians, and have seen their support plummet to the levels of the liberals!!

This seems to go right past the conservative supporters and I just have to shake my head and laugh. So we hear nonsense like liberals are more likely to switch. Well DUH!!! Any halfwit can figure that out without a poll!!!

Where is the king conservative party? We are supposed to see the new party capture Canadians across this country and the liberal numbers were to spiral down!

But that seems not to register with conservatives.

Onward christian soldiers... I guess.

speaking of going off topic...

"I am surprised that you would object to spending a few of your paltry tax $$$$ to have this matter decided by, in your opinion, the majority of the voters."

It isn't paltry tax dollars, and as a conservative supporter I would have thought you would be more careful with tax dollars. Oh wait, your party likes to spend. I forgot.

There isn't an election soon, because thankfully, our parties are wise enough not to go waste our time, and tax money.

I believe that is very plain to see.

you really are just a pathetic old man who can't (or won't) carry a conversation.

I just offer light banter about a subject, and that seems upsetting enough.

You can't even offer decent conversation on my blog.

At least on my blog, I offer more than cut and paste with a half a sentence.
