MacSpadyen's vision might be closer than we think if politicians and bureaucrats don't start setting more logical priorities......it seems like they don't get the message that nickles and dimes add up.
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to your local public library and our orientation session sponsored by the Bookmark Grill, located on the lower level, where today's lunch special is garlic and ginger-crusted salmon.
As most of you are aware, public libraries have a great tradition of protecting free access to information for all, but unfortunately, the times are changing. Recent cuts in library subsidies mean free access to information is now as rare as free parking. And if information is power, it seems empowerment in the information age has a price.
In the spirit of doing more with less, the library has improved its service delivery, starting here at the customer service centre, what some of you may remember as the old information desk.
One of the most obvious changes you'll notice is that staff members are now easy to identify. In response to customer suggestions, and in an attempt to reduce the avalanche of daily "Do you work here?" inquiries, all staff now wear teal-coloured golf shirts with our logo – Welcome to the World of Information – on the back. Additionally, all staff members will be sporting the familiar white and navy blue colours of footwear donated by Swoosh, the library's official athletic shoe.
