The job that you should have been doing since amalgamation; harmonization of services and elimination of redundant properties and jobs and the implementation of taxes that reflect the cost of running the city. And the citizenry is right up their with the politicians sharing the blame by not getting out and voting and voting for those politicians that tell you how much you will save in taxes rather than how much it costs to provide non-essential services.....this current production of wringing of hands and shedding of crocodile tears by Comrade Miller and his band of amateur thespians is a joke.
Knives poised at City HallBudget chief says she's trying to make tomorrow's cuts as painless as possible |
The axe falls at City Hall tomorrow.
Toronto budget chief Shelley Carroll said senior bureaucrats were still compiling information yesterday as they went about the job of coming up with cuts needed to help the cash-strapped city limp through its current financial crisis.
"We're trying really hard to avoid whole elimination of services," said Carroll, adding city officials are overturning "every single stone" in search of savings.
MILLER PROPHETIC
Mayor David Miller warned cuts were on the way after city council voted last month to put off making a decision until October about whether to impose unpopular new taxes.
City officials estimated the delay flowing from the decision will cost the city up to $100 million in lost revenue. Miller is now looking to squeeze savings out of the city's municipal operations, Toronto's emergency services and the TTC.
