Toronto Beats Out Baghdad In Online Contest For Spice Girls Reunion Date
When the Spice Girls planned their upcoming reunion tour, a stop in Toronto wasn't in the cards. Instead, our fine city had to earn a visit from the once-powerful girl group.
But earn it we did, and on Friday Ontario's capital was named the winner of an online contest that invited fans to vote on which city the pop stars should add to their list of international dates.
Cities including Rio, Chicago, Paris, Melbourne, Manchester and even Baghdad came close, but Toronto was ultimately crowned "Spice City."
"We are delighted to be going to Toronto," the quintet said Friday in a statement. "We have such incredible fans there and we are amazed at such a positive reaction. It's a great place and we can't wait to get back there. Well done Toronto."
The Spice Girls -- Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm and of course, Victoria Beckham were once queens of the pop world with 1990s with hits like "Wannabe," "Say You'll Be There," "Stop" and "Spice Up Your Life."
